County Approves Security Camera Upgrades for Juvenile Detention Facility

Lewis County commissioners on Monday approved a contract with CTG Security Electronics, based in Spokane Valley, to upgrade 42 existing outdated analog cameras with a high-definition digital camera network at the juvenile detention center.

An additional 13 cameras will be added to provide better monitoring of the jail in compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003.

The county declined previous bids because they did not fall within an acceptable price range. CTG Security Electronics won the current cycle with a bid of $268,000, beating Accurate Electrical Unlimited from Vancouver and Justice Systems Corp., from Kent.

The project is financed through a one-tenth of 1 percent sales tax revenue for jails and juvenile detention improvements.
