Chehalis City Councilor Jerry Lord Experienced the Kindness of a Stranger After Motorcycle Crash

Chehalis City Councilor Jerry Lord got into a motorcycle accident on Jan. 17 of which the outcome could have been much worse if it wasn’t for a good samaritan, Amelia McNeil, that saw the crash and helped him to the hospital, according to a Facebook post.

Lord posted a description of the accident on the Facebook page for his downtown Chehalis business, M & K Town Store, on the morning of Feb. 20. He said he was driving on Highway 101 in the Phoenix area heading west when the cars in front of him came to an abrupt stop.

“I didn’t stop fast enough and ended up eating tailpipe. I was splayed out on the asphalt thinking the next car would end me,” Lord wrote in the post.

He said McNeil jumped out of her car and ran over to him while he was laying in the road. She attempted to help him to her car but Lord passed out.

“When I woke, she and I were both laying on the freeway, I was laying on top of her. The car I ran into was long gone and it didn’t appear anyone else cared enough to help,” said Lord.

A DOT employee arrived on the scene and helped McNeil walk Lord over to her car, where they waited for the EMT to show up.

The EMT assessed Lord’s condition and asked McNeil to drive him to the hospital. Lord recalled that he started blacking out again at this point.

“The patrol guy told me I had stopped breathing and he was getting ready to start CPR. I ended up in the ambulance this time,” Lord recalled in the post.

McNeil, a special needs teacher in Phoenix, went to the hospital with Lord to make sure he was okay.

“Amelia stopped when no one else would, she risked life and limb jumping into traffic, had she not been there I am not sure what would have happened when I passed out the first time or the second time. I owe her more than I can repay. Thank you, Amelia, for being there,” Lord wrote.

Lord spent the night in the hospital while the doctors monitored his heart rate which he said was 33 bpm when he arrived at the hospital after the accident.

He declined to comment further.
