Arbor Health Reports Scammers Posing as Hospital Staff

Morton’s Arbor Health is cautioning residents about telephone scammers claiming to be from the East Lewis County hospital’s billing department and demanding payment for unpaid medical bills.

“In most cases the person does not owe the hospital any money,” a news release from Arbor Health states. “In one such instance, one of these scammers unknowingly even called one of our hospital commissioners.”

The caller reportedly pretended to be an employee of the hospital and requested credit card information, Social Security number and bank account numbers.

The hospital reports that it does not threaten to withhold lifesaving medical care, and that the Arbor Health billing department will never ask for bank account information or your complete social security number over the phone and will not request payments to be made in iTunes gift cards, prepaid debit cards or wire transfers.

Patients should never agree to make such a payment if they are not confident of the identity of the caller.

To verify your bill with Arbor Health, call 360-496-3707 or reach the organization’s billing service directly at 855-880-7287.
