Youth Wrestling Roundup: Mat Rats Rebooted wins gold at Reckoning on the Hill

Mat Rats Rebooted Wrestling put together an impressive performance at the Washington State Wrestling Association Reckoning on the Hill Tournament in Auburn on Saturday, finishing first among all teams.

The Mat Rats scored 252 points, 27 more than second place Bear Claw Wrestling Club / Maple Valley Jr. Wrestling, and 53 more than Mat Demon Wrestling Club, which took third.

As a team, the Mat Rats finished with the most pins (22), and they reached that mark in just a combined 35:31 of wrestling time.

Eight Mat Rats took gold: Harper Andersen (G3‑5, 112.3, GR), Evalyn Martinez (G3‑5, 58.7‑67.8, GR), Darren Marble (U10, 96.85‑97.3, FS), Tucker Eisenmann (U12, 83‑92, FS), Hayden Templeton (U10, 47‑55.8, FS and U10, 47, GR), Skylar Powell (G6‑8, 107.1‑112.3, FS), Charlie Wheeler (HS, 120, FS), and Jaxon Martinez (U8, 56.6, GR)

Eight more took second: - Harper Andersen (G3‑5, 112.3, FS) and G6‑8, 107.1‑112.3, FS), Jace Collins (U16, 138.65‑148.1, GR), Haiden Denegar (HS, 110‑112, FS), Tucker Eisenmann (U12, 79.7‑84.2, FS), Jedrek Marble (U12, 109.8‑112.3, FS), Evalyn Martinez (G3‑5, 58.7‑67.8, FS), Skylar Powell (G6‑8, 96.8‑112.3, GR), Charlie Wheeler (HS, 118.6‑126.2, GR)

Two — Cora Andersen (G3‑5, 58.7‑67.8, GR) and Harper Andersen (G6‑8, 96.8‑112.3, GR) — took third.

Four placed fourth: - Cora Andersen (G3‑5, 58.7‑67.8, FS), Elliot Halsey (U12, 79.7‑84.2, FS and U12, 79.7‑86.9, GR), Olive Halsey (G6‑8, 125.15‑129.9, FS), and Jax Vomenici (U14, 79.6‑86.4, FS and (U14, 82.6‑86.4, GR).

And two — Jace Collins (U16, 144‑148, FS) and Kataleana Warner (HS, 110‑112, FS) — took fifth.



Two Twin City Wrestlers win at Peninsula Superstars Two-Style Tournament

The Twin City Mat Cats took a trip to Oregon to compete in the Peninsula Superstars Two-Style Tournament over the weekend, and 18 wrestlers finished in the top three, including two who won their respective brackets.

Isabella Nelson won in folkstyle, while Bowen Driscoll notched a win in freestyle.

No team scores were kept, but Driscoll finished with 28.5 individual points to lead the Mat Cats. Jace Hanson added 23, Jeffery Landon and Chance Schwartz both added 21, and Aiden Bensching scored 19.

Among the top three finishers in the folkstyle were Bradyen Nelson, Driscoll, and Royce Mansfield, who all took second. Finishing third in their respective brackets were Hanson,  Hunter Rice, Darius White, Schwartz, Jeffrey Landon, and Bensching.

Hanson, Schwartz, Bensching, Mansfield, and Landon finished second in the freestyle, while Rice and White finished third.

Next, the Mat Cats will host the 26th Twin City 3-Styles Classic from March 20-22 in the Northwest Sports Hub in Centralia.

Greco starts Friday at 5 p.m., Freestyle begins on Saturday at 10 a.m., and Folkstyle begins Sunday at 9 a.m. Over 2,000 entries are expected over the three days of wrestling.
