Young, Kolb Combine to Shut Out Titans

The Mossyrock baseball team jumped ahead early and rode a shutdown effort on the mound to a key non-league win, beating Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 4-0 on Thursday.

Cooper Young and Easton Kolb combined to allow three hits, but only let one runner get to third base all game long. Young struck out nine in five innings to earn the win, allowing four walks, while Kolb went the final two, striking out four and not walking anybody.

Mossyrock got all the scoring it would need right off the bat in the bottom of the first. Keegan Kolb led off with a single, and Easton Kolb walked to set the table for Young, who brought both home on a single to make it 2-0.

The Vikings added one more before the Titans could get out of the inning, then scored one more in the second.

From there, PWV pitcher Garrett Keeton slammed the door shut, striking out eight straight Vikings and going 14-up, 14-down to end the game. But the damage had been done, and Mossyrock’s own arms didn’t let their guests get close to coming back as the afternoon wore on.

Mossyrock was scheduled to face Oakville in a league matchup Thursday, with PWV taking on Winlock on Monday.
