Posted

The Washington State Patrol issued a statement this week urging motorcyclists to slow down and drive safe in the wake of three riders being injured and one killed in the span of a week in Jefferson and Clallam Counties.

Four percent of vehicles registered in Washington are motorcycles, but they account for 17 percent of the fatalities and 18 percent of serious injury collisions between 2012 and 2014, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. Also, 75 percent of the collisions were rider-caused.

Investigations into the crashes in Jefferson and Clallam Counties are ongoing.

According to WTSC statistics, 5 percent of fatalities and 30 percent of serious injury motorcycle collisions involve excessive speed and 91 percent involve male riders.
