WSDOT Plans for Delays, Detours on State Route 6 During Willapa Hills Trail Bridge Work

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) released a statement on Wednesday announcing it would be coordinating with the Washington State Parks Commission to set up bridge segments across state Route 6 for the Willapa Hills State Park Trail bridge crossing.

The work on the bridge will begin on Monday, April 17, and will continue through April 21, causing traffic delays and detours.

“Because this work takes place over the travel lanes of SR 6, for the safety of the traveling public, daytime single lane closures and full overnight closures of the highway are needed,” WSDOT said in its statement.

Beginning at 7 a.m. on April 17 and continuing through Thursday, April 20, flaggers will alternate travelers through a single lane in both directions of state Route 6 until 8 p.m. each night.

Also beginning on April 17, both directions of state Route 6 between Twin Oaks Road and Highway 603 will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. During these overnight closures, travelers will follow a signed detour using Twin Oaks Road and Highway 603.

Additional overnight closures are required for bridge deck casting and railing installation and are tentatively scheduled for May 1 to May 4.

As with all highway maintenance and construction projects, travelers are asked to exercise caution when driving through the work zone. For safety, drivers are asked to drive at slower speeds, have patience, obey warning signs and look for instructions from flagging personnel.
