The Black Hills wrestling team took home individual wins from three different events Saturday, leading a packed day of wrestling in the Chronline area.
Wolves get three winners at Ramrock
Black Hills took first out of eight teams at North Thurston’s Ramrock Invitational Saturday, with three individual winners.
Aidan Labouff took first at 120 for the Wolves, while Conner Mounts was first at 138 and Khristian Brant was 1st at 144.
Judah Bender (126) and Porter Neklason (150) also made their divisions’ finals, taking second on the day. Roberto Rivera-Jesus finished third at 113.
Tumwater’s Elijah Barnes had the best finish for the T-Birds, placing third at 132. Carlos Juarez-Strada (113), Alex Concepcion (126) and Jacob Kaikkonen (175) all took fourth.
Campos wins at White River Classic
Centralia’s Jesus Campos dominated the field at 126 at the White River Classic on Saturday, starting his senior season off on a dominant note.
Campos got to the finals with three straight first-round pins, then beat an opponent from 4A Graham-Kapowsin in the finals by technical fall.
Elsewhere, freshman Jeremy Frady finished fifth at JV 155, in his first varsity action.
Rochester hosts Warrior Wrangle
Six local schools came around to Rochester, where five wrestlers took home first place.
Rochester’s Jack Dane won first at 285, beating teammate Jaden Nichols by fall in the title bout. Adna’s Alex Richards was first at 106, Tumwater’s Zachary Warner was first at 150B, W.F. West’s Jared Munsell won at 144B and Black Hills’ Chad Bennett beat Tumwater’s Brian Fowler in the championship at 126.
Adna finished sixth out of the 11 schools to lead the area contingent, with Ryder Calhoun finishing second at 120, Kooper Moon taking fourth at 138 and Levi Slape taking fourth at 175.
Tenino, which finished seventh, had Koy Knox take second at 175, Seth Gideon finish third at 113, and Guy Lowery (190) and Rowdie Tafoya (285) finish fourth.
Hudson Jackson added a second-place finish at 113 for Tumwater, which was eighth as a team.
Kruger wins in Yelm
On the girls’ side of things, Black Hills’ Sloane Kruger took home an individual crown at 110 at Yelm’s Jump On In.
Behind her, Averie Reynolds was fourth at 125B and Estrella Ayala-Martinez was fourth at 170 for the Wolves.
The best team performance, though, came from Centralia, which had three all-Tiger third-place matchups.
Jocelyn Navarro faced Alyssa Hicks-Avron in the third-place match at 105, and ended up winning due to an injury forfeit. At 120, Eva Reinitz was set to face Ramona Reinitz, but won by forfeit before the match began. And at 145, Ana Blankenship beat Jayden Krogness for third.
Rainier’s Keira Anderson finished fourth at 190, and Tenino got fifth-place finishes from Dakota Lees (155) and Ynavi Rodriguez (190).
Bearcats fifth in Edmonds
Coming off its first dual loss in a decade, W.F. West sent its top wrestlers to Edmonds, where the Bearcats took fifth out of 36 higher-classification schools at the Edmonds Invite.
Andrew Penland had the best individual finish for WFW, making the finals at 215 before losing to finish second. Tucker Land was fourth at 190, Jospaht Acuna was sixth at 157, Andrew Snyder was sixth at 165 and Angelo Peters was seventh at 285.
Mountaineers win in Westport
Wrestling at the 2B level got underway with the Ocosta Invitational in Westport, where Rainier beat out the host Wildcats and a fair few Central 2B League contenders — and some other guests — for the team title.
Zander Peck won the 165-pound division, while Dorien Cano came in first at 175. Rainier got second-place finishes from Evan Delaney (106), Connor Power (150) and Mason Lantz (190). Jayden Alagarbes (132) and Matthew Kenney (285) both finished third, and Jacob Scott (113), Addison Poole (138) and Blake Roberts (215) all took fourth.
Napavine’s Peyton Hernandez took first at 126, while Carter Catton was fourth at 175.
Onalaska, which took fifth as a team, had Norman Prazak (126) and Tommy Hornsby III (285) finish second, with Benito Escalero (120) and David Locklin (157) placing third.
Winlock’s Cooper Robinet (144) and Ryder Burkett (175) and Toledo’s Carter Swofford (138) and Bomani Birdwell (165) all finished third.
