Woman found guilty of child molestation after mistrial in Cowlitz County court

The woman accused of forcing a teenage boy to touch her genitalia in 2024 was found guilty of two of the five charges she faced following a four-day trial.

Jenny Laurel Kearney, 51, was found guilty last week of third-degree child molestation and felony harassment, both with a firearm enhancement. However, she was acquitted on Dec. 8 of a second charge of third-degree child molestation and two counts of indecent liberties.

She remains in custody and her sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 21.

Kearney was originally found guilty on all counts in June in Cowlitz County Superior Court. However, due to the jury mistakenly receiving improper information, the court determined she didn't receive a fair trial, leading to a mistrial on June 17.

According to court documents, the jury was mistakenly given a police report about Kearney. The report, called a “supplemental narrative,” included statements and information not admitted during the trial.

Kearney was arrested on May 30, 2024, after a 15-year-old fled to a neighboring home in the 600 block of Morse Street in Ryderwood, arresting documents show. The teen told authorities Kearney chased him with a gun until she made him touch her breasts and put his hand down her pants.

Kearney reportedly told the victim that if he didn't go along with her demands, she would tell everyone he raped her. She made threats that if he didn't comply, she would shoot him, the teen told police according to court records.
