The woman convicted of molesting a teenager in 2024 in Ryderwood was sentenced Wednesday to over a year behind bars.
Cowlitz County Superior Court Judge Michael H. Evans gave a concurrent sentence to Jenny Laurel Kearney, 52, of 14 months of confinement and 36 months of community custody for a third-degree molestation charge, as well as eight months for a felony harassment charge for a total of one year and two months.
Evans also issued two no-contact orders.
Kearney, who was found guilty last month, was initially convicted in June. However, a mistrial was declared after the jury mistakenly received a copy of a police report that included statements and information that had not been presented or testified to during the trial.
As stated in court documents, the victim told authorities he thinks about the incident constantly, and wanted her to serve a longer prison term.
Court records show the victim's mother also provided a statement before the court saying her son doesn't trust people anymore.
She said she was trying to help her son earn money with someone she trusted, but instead this tragedy occurred.
According to the arrest documents, Kearney, a friend of the victim's mother, made sexually explicit comments to the victim while he was doing yard work in May 2024 at a home in the 600 block of Morse Street in Ryderwood.
She told the victim if he didn't touch her breast and vagina, she would shoot him, the documents state. She had also taken multiple shots of alcohol, and the victim reported seeing a gun in a holster inside the home.
Out of fear, the victim complied with Kearney’s demands. Later, she would tell the authorities the victim had raped her, but no evidence of the allegation was found.
She was still in Cowlitz County Jail as of Monday afternoon.
