A woman is accused of stealing over $1,700 in items from the Chehalis Walmart on Saturday.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the woman said she stole the items for her mother’s birthday.
Amy V. Manolakos, 30, of Portland, faces one count each of second-degree retail theft with special circumstances and resisting arrest.
Manolakos made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Monday, where a judge set bail at $10,000 cash or bond.
As part of her release conditions, Manolakos is prohibited from leaving Western Washington or Western Oregon, and cannot contact any Walmart stores.
According to the affidavit, a Chehalis police officer located Manolakos “in a group of trees” near the store’s parking lot, following the reported theft.
Manolakos allegedly resisted the officer’s initial attempts to detain her, though she was ultimately placed in handcuffs.
“Manolakos said she had just ‘swallowed dope’ and requested she just be given a citation,” the affidavit says.
Two Walmart loss prevention officers reportedly confirmed Manolakos as the suspect and said she had attempted to leave the store by taking a filled shopping cart through an emergency exit.
The officers said Manolakos had stolen $1,731.09 in items.
According to the affidavit, Manolakos allegedly admitted to stealing the items so “she could give them to her mother for her birthday.”
After Manolakos was medically cleared, police booked her into the Lewis County Jail.
According to the affidavit, Manolakos has been issued 14 warrants in past cases.
She is scheduled for an arraignment on Thursday, May 7.
