Wolves win extra-inning thriller over Highclimbers

After tying the game in the top of the seventh inning, the Black Hills High School softball team put up three in the ninth to triumph over Shelton 10-7 in an Evergreen Conference contest on Monday night.

It puts the Wolves (7-6, 4-5 EvCo) in third place, a game up on the lost column on W.F. West, heading into two head-to-head battles this week on Tuesday and Friday. Madi Malone broke the 7-7 tie with an RBI single, then Makenna Oderman brought in two on a single up the middle. Ella Goheen set down Shelton 1-2-3 in the bottom half to secure the win.

Four runs in the fourth put Black Hills up 5-0, only for Shelton to rally with two in the fourth and five in the fifth. The Wolves cut the deficit to one on a fielder’s choice and sent the contest to extras on a Tyler Venable RBI groundout.

Oderman finished with three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored while Malone and Kailey Miller each notched two hits. Goheen pitched the final five innings, struck out 10 and allowed two hits plus three walks.
