The Winlock volleyball team’s season came to an end on Wednesday, when the Cardinals were swept by Kalama 25-23, 25-7, 25-18.

Winlock (8-9, 2-7 C2BL) went into the night with a chance to grab one the C2BL’s final spots at the district tournament, but the loss eliminated the Cardinals from contention.

They battled early, playing a strong, back-and-forth game before Kalama came away with a close win, but the Chinooks took over in sets two and three.

Winlock coach Terri Dalsted said the Cardinals just couldn’t get anything going, and Kalama’s hitter wore them down late.

Despite the disappointing finish, Dalsted was proud of the girls, saying they “stuck together and competed until the end” despite adversity throughout the season.

Kindly Kelly led the way with eight kills, while Kendall Guenther added five and Madison Rohman tallied four. Charlee Connelly went 10-10 from the service line, and Grace Cotton “played tough at the net.”

With the win, Kalama clinched the No. 6 seed in the district tournament, which will pin them against Ocosta in the first round on Saturday.
