The second suspect implicated in the Centralia house-sitting that allegedly resulted in two dead chickens and stolen gold and silver coins appeared in court Thursday.

Keegan T. Gendreau, 27, of Winlock, had been wanted for arrest since Monday.

During the hearing, defense attorney Rachael Tiller asked Judge J. Andrew Toynbee to quash Gendreau’s arrest warrant.

Tiller said Gendreau had been speaking with law enforcement the “entire time” and contacted the court and prosecutors when he learned of his warrant.

The judge agreed to quash the warrant and released Gendreau on his own recognizance. Gendreau is scheduled for an arraignment on June 11. He intends to retain private counsel.

Gendreau is charged with one count each of residential burglary and first-degree theft, both punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Gendreau became a suspect after his fingerprints were found on a lock box that once held gold and silver coins valued at over $5,000.

The items were allegedly stolen when Heather C. Tempest, 45, of Ocean Shores, was house-sitting for the victim during the Thanksgiving holiday last year.

Tempest faces identical charges. She pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Thursday.

According to the affidavit, the victim returned home to find “two dead chickens and several damaged items.” Tempest had been hired to take care of her animals, the victim said.

The victim then noticed the missing items. Tempest’s fingerprints were also allegedly found on the lock box.

The victim confirmed with prosecutors that she did not know Gendreau and had not given him permission to be in her home.

Tempest and Gendreau are Facebook friends, according to the affidavit.
