Winlock falls to Chief Leschi

The Winlock football team’s rocky season didn't get any smoother as it lost its third straight Friday night at home, falling to Chief Leschi 54-22.

The winless Cardinals (0-3) didn't back away from the fight, keeping things back and forth well into the second quarter. Chief Leschi scored the first touchdown early in the first on a 58-yard run. Winlock’s Landen Cline answered with a 13-yard touchdown pass.

After a Chief Leschi touchdown run followed by Cline finding the endzone from 4 yards out, Winlock trailed by two in the second quarter.

That’s where the Cardinals defense flew south. The Warriors went on to score five unanswered touchdowns on the Cards while converting on every two-point attempt.

Cline was able to throw six more points on the board for the Cards in the fourth to attempt to pry a few nails, but the Warriors had already buried the coffin.

The Cardinals will head to Naselle next Friday to take on the undefeated Comets.
