The Winlock class of 1965 will meet at 5 p.m. Friday, June 20, for a social hour at Pyramid on Front Street in Winlock. After that, there will be a celebration dinner at 6 p.m. to commemorate 60 years since graduating from Winlock High School in 1965.
The class of 1965 consisted of 52 graduating classmates. Although 13 of those classmates have died, 27 of the 1965 graduates will be attending the 60th class reunion in Winlock on Friday, according to a news release.
One of the class’s teachers, Jack Wright, who taught geometry, advanced math, chemistry, physics and visual aids, along with being a basketball and baseball coach at Winlock High School, will also be in attendance.
After celebrating their 50th class reunion in 2015, the classmates wanted an opportunity to get together more often than every five or 10 years. With the help and encouragement of a few of the classmates, a plan was put together to meet twice a year at a restaurant in the Chehalis area, generally around April and October, the news release stated.
Except for three times during COVID-19, an average of 26 to 30 classmates and friends have gathered together twice a year. Most recently, the reunions have been held at Jeremy’s Farm to Table Restaurant in Chehalis.
Some of the classmates drive from as far as Bothell and Woodinville in the north and Camas and Vancouver in the south to attend. These get-togethers are always open to classmates from other graduating classes as well.
Of the 52 graduates, 13 of those classmates went all the way from kindergarten through their senior year together. In addition, the frequent luncheons over the past 10 years have brought this class together like no other, the release stated.
