WIAA will continue to hold state football title games at Husky Stadium

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced Wednesday they will continue to use Husky Stadium for the state football championships for at least the next two seasons.

The WIAA held the Gridiron Classic on the University of Washington campus for the first time last year as on a trial basis and were hoping they could work out an arrangement with UW to continue.

The WIAA released the minutes of Sunday's Executive Board meeting, which said UW will be the host for 2024 and 2025.

Holding the state championships at UW was well received by coaches, players and fans in December as most saw it as a big step up from the high-school venues it had held them at since leaving the Tacoma Dome after the 2019 title games.

"One of the coaches getting ready to play today said it's really cool being here and being on a college campus," WIAA executive director Mick Hoffman said in December. "Because that's the next level and most of these kids will never get to play at the next level. But they're getting to play at that facility and just driving up to campus, walking up to the stadium, being in the stadium.

"They just watched a big game here a week ago on TV. Our job is to make lifetime memories for kids and a facility like this helps solidify that."
