W.F. West wakes up in third quarter to quiet Tumwater

Sloppy turnovers and offensive fouls were paramount for the Bearcats in the opening half, but they flipped the script and proceeded to cruise by the Thunderbirds 52-27 on Tuesday night.

By the time four gametime minutes went by in the third quarter, W.F. West (7-4, 1-0 EvCo) scored 19 unanswered points to be in firm control.

“It’s a be us thing,” Bearcats head coach Kyle Karnofski said. “The pressure, getting in transition and finishing our shots, taking care of the ball. All the stuff you tell nearly every team.”

Dilyn Boeck paced W.F. West with 13 points while Kaitlyn Chloupek added 11 and Joy Cushman registered 10. It only allowed seven points in the second half and nearly doubled its output in the third frame alone. The Bearcats take on Black Hills at home on Thursday night.

For Tumwater (5-6, 0-1), Maesyn Williams and Claire Buono each recorded seven points. The T-Birds will trek down to Lewis County and take on Centralia.
