A little bit healthier and another quick lead in the first quarter allowed the Bearcats to remain perfect in the Evergreen Conference with a 67-26 victory over the Thunderbirds on Thursday night in Tumwater.
It marks the fourth straight game that W.F. West (16-1, 6-0 EvCo) has allowed under 30 points and the fifth time in six league contests. The Bearcats are at minimum two wins away from wrapping another outright league title.
“I thought we had some good energy to begin with,” Bearcats head coach Kyle Karnofski said. “Third quarter, I thought we really clamped down on defense and did a good job not letting them get into the gaps they were getting into earlier.”
Sophomore guard Kaitlyn Chloupek returned to the lineup after missing a couple games and registered nine points. Julia Dalan paced W.F. West with 24 points and Dilyn Boeck added 23. Karnofski credited Amanda Bennett for “kind of doing the Amanda thing” plus sophomore Madi McManus providing a spark.
The Bearcats will have a six-day break before welcoming Black Hills to Chehalis on Wednesday.
“They’ve been playing some pretty good basketball as of late,” Karnofski said of the Wolves. “They’re gonna come in and give us a battle.”
