The old soccer saying of a two-goal lead is one of the most dangerous leads and the Bearcats found that out for themselves on Wednesday day night, drawing with the Plainsmen 2-2 in Vancouver.
Evergreen cut the margin in half with a penalty kick in the 60th minute, then tied the match on what W.F. West head coach Kevin Schultz called a “crazy shot” in the 77th minute. The Bearcats out shot the Plainsmen 24-7, but they never found the third goal.
“Frustrating match and one we need to learn from,” Schultz said. “When we needed to keep going, we kind of stalled out. We need to be better in both finishing and the quality of (passing) around goal. Hopefully a wake up call for us.”
W.F. West struck early with a Lauren Kelley goal in the 12th minute and Wyatt Rogerson followed with another tally in the 14th minute. The Bearcats will play their home opener on Tuesday against old league rival Rochester.
