W.F. West put together its best performance on the young season on Thursday, topping Prairie 3-1 in a non-league matchup in Chehalis.
“Really good performance,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “It was the most complete game of the season. We got everyone on the roster in the game … Really proud of the boys on how they came together.”
Rafa Mendez opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the eighth minute, and just three minutes after Prairie tied the game at one, Derrick Galena put W.F. West back on top in the 18th minute.
The 2-1 scoreline held until the 79th minute, when Alex Mathuzima added an insurance goal for good measure.
Gage Grisham assisted both Galena and Mathuzima’s goals.
Anderson also commended River Haydon for his performance in net, saying that he is happy with how he’s come along.
“It is exciting to see guys stepping up,” Anderson said. “It is cool how quickly their chemistry is coming together. It’s been a good start for us, hopefully we can keep it rolling.”
It’s the second win in a row for the Bearcats, as a goal from Hudson Newman was enough for them to pick up a 1-0 win over Evergreen (Vancouver) on Tuesday.
W.F. West (3-1) will look to make it three wins in a row at home on Saturday against Washougal.
