The W.F. West girls basketball team picked up a win on its senior night on Tuesday, when it cruised to a 65-21 win over Shelton.
The Bearcats honored their five seniors — Hadley Hoffman, Caroline Buzzard, Dayani Ojeda, Amanda Linwood, and Madi Baine — before the game, and four of the five made up the starting lineup. Ojeda was not in the starting lineup, but that was due to an injury.
The starting group put the Bearcats up early, helping them build a 14-2 lead in the first quarter.
“They did a great job setting the tone and playing some tough defense,” W.F. West coach Kyle Karnofski said.
The Bearcats continued to roll in the second, where they outscored the Highclimbers 29-6, and the lead ballooned to 39 entering the fourth, where W.F. West again held Shelton to just two points.
Dilyn Boeck led the Bearcats with 17 points, while Joy Cushman was right behind her with 16, and Kaitlyn Chloupek added nine.
“Just fun to play some different rotations tonight and have some of those seniors play together as a group,” Karnofski said. “Our girls just did a good job playing together and sharing the ball.”
Buzzard led the senior class with seven points, while Hoffman added six. All five seniors have been with the Bearcats for all four years of their high school career, and Karnofski said it was fun to honor them.
“They’re just super awesome kids,” Karnofski said. “We had a good time honoring them, being there for them, and celebrating them.”
The Bearcats (16-4, 9-0 2A EvCo) will wrap up their regular season in Centralia on Thursday, when they will look to complete their third straight unbeaten league season.
