Chehalis-area theatergoers have an opportunity to escape the Pacific Northwest’s chilly winter weather this weekend and spend a couple hours on an island in Greece, as W.F. West High School opens its winter musical, “Mamma Mia!”
Directed and choreographed by 2023 W.F. West High School graduate Emma Ricks, “Mamma Mia!” is a jukebox musical based on the songs of Swedish pop/dance group ABBA, set on a fictional Green island.
The show follows Sophie (Mercedes Ricks) as she tries to find out who her father is before she marries her fiancé, Sky (Kaden Schow). She discovers her mother Donna’s (Grace Robison) diary, which describes old dates with three possible fathers, Sam (Ammon Satterfield), Bill (Landon Schow) and Harry (Nathan Flexhaug), and sends invites to all three, who accept. Meanwhile, Donna and the other two members of her former musical trio, Tanya (Ruby Stanton) and Rosie (Paige Ricks), are preparing for the wedding.
“Mamma Mia!” opens Friday, Dec. 13, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Dec. 21 and a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee on Dec. 20.
Performances will take place at the W.F. West High School Theater, located inside the high school at 342 SW 16th St. in Chehalis.
Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the W.F. West High School ASB office, by phone at 360-807-7235, or at the door if available before each performance.
“Many times our shows sell out, so we recommend buying tickets ahead of time,” said Chehalis School District Public Information Officer Carrina Stanton.
