Following up her ExciteFight championship belt win last summer, professional MMA fighter and W.F. West High School graduate Kayla “Killer Kay” Weed will be participating in World Fighting Championships (WFC) 167 at the Little Creek Casino and Resort in Shelton on Saturday, March 23.

She will be fighting Breona Vaughn for the WFC 145-pound title.

“My career is going great,” Weed said in an email to The Chronicle. “I’ve been working really hard on becoming a more well-rounded fighter and I plan to showcase that in my next fight. This fight is an exciting opportunity for the WFC world title fight.”

Her opponent, Vaughn, hails from Las Vegas, Nevada. Weed added she is looking forward to the challenge she presents.

Tickets to WFC 167 start at $38.50 and can be purchased online at https://worldfightingchampionships.com/events/23704/

After growing up in Adna, Weed became the first female to compete in wrestling for W.F. West in 2014 and helped create its girls wrestling team, which had 27 students among its ranks by her senior year, according to previous reporting by The Chronicle.
