W.F. West ended its regular season on a high note on Tuesday, running past Shelton for a 7-1 victory.

Izzy Teeter opened the scoring almost immediately, knocking in a rebound off an Ashlen Gruginski shot in the second minute. Three minutes later, Teeter returned the favor, as Gruginski scored a rebound off a Teeter shot to make it 2-0.

Grusinski added a second later in the half in response to a Shelton goal, and the Bearcats went into the break up 3-1.

W.F. West started the second half just as hot, as Reese Mishler and Teeter scored just two minutes later to put the Bearcats up 5-1 just seven minutes into the half.

“It’s becoming a regular thing for us,” W.F. West coach Kevin Schultz said about scoring early in halves. “We talk about bringing energy from the start. Seeing that come out is really cool. They kinda of feed off of each other when the energy gets going good.”

Teeter capped off her first career hat trick in the 55th minute, scoring after taking the ball off of one of the defender’s feet.

“That was a cool moment for her,” Schultz said. “She has had a fantastic year for us.”

Teeter also got a save in net, where she played the final five minutes.

Wyatt Rogerson rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 61st minute, and Gruginski, Violet Ratke, Wyatt Rogerson, and Berkeley Varick each had an assist.

By the end of the night, the Bearcats outshot the Highclimbers 31-3.

Schultz added that it was great to get a win for the team’s nine seniors — Lauren Kelley, Mishler, Rogerson, Eden Hornby, Varick, Ratke, Alabama Ropka, Elizabeth Mittge, and Leah White — in their final regular season home game.

All nine seniors started both halves, and in the second half, Schultz was able to sub them off one by one.

“It was a cool moment to give each of the seniors their own send off,” Schultz said.

Schultz also gave a shoutout to his JV team, which won 7-0 to finish its season 11-1-1.

The varsity team (11-2-1, 7-2 2A EvCo) will host a district quarterfinal on Saturday against Ridgefield at either noon or 1 p.m.
