For the last two years when the Bearcats battled the Papermakers, they have been on the wrong side of the scoreboard. Ignited by a five-run sixth, W.F. West upended 4A Camas 6-2 on Saturday afternoon in Clark County.
The Bearcats were limited to just one hit entering the sixth, but the rally started with a leadoff walk and Karly Rasmussen loaded the bases with a single. A hit by pitch then an Allie Smitherman two-run double put them up for good.
Brooklyn Spencer capped the frame with a two-run single. Taylor Tobin battled around two early runs and a pair of walks to throw a complete game in the circle with six strikeouts.
“The girls felt really good about the win,” W.F. West head coach Kevin Zylstra said. “They wanted a little redemption and they got it.”
Gracie Elam hit a leadoff home run in the seventh and scored twice. Spencer added two hits and a stolen base for the Bearcats. They begin a three-game week on Tuesday when they host 3A Kelso.
