Fueled by a clean sweep in doubles and a three-set triumph by Emma Hamilton at No. 1 singles, the Bearcats picked up a 5-1 dual victory over the Cruisers on Tuesday afternoon in Chehalis.
Rain has hampered W.F. West (2-0) this spring. It still hasn’t faced an EvCo opponent and barring another cancellation, its next chance will be the first Swamp Cup matchup against Centralia on Wednesday.
Still, the reigning league champs came out firing with a tinkered lineup. The three doubles teams lost a combined 13 games and all of them were straight set wins.
“They are consistent, make smart choices and adjust well,” Bearcats head coach Megan Wellander said. “Each team had to battle against opponents that made them work, which was awesome.”
Hamilton and Eatonville’s Bailey Anderson split the first two sets, but Hamilton broke Anderson’s serve twice to prevail in three. Alayna Leal picked up a straight win at No. 2 singles.
“I was very proud of our girls all around for battling today,” Wellander said.
