Despite the Highclimbers missing two important players due to injury, the Bearcats picked up a dominant 60-30 victory on Friday night to be the last team with a perfect Evergreen Conference record.
Now at 11-4 and 4-0 in the league, W.F. West is a game up in the loss column on Shelton and Tumwater. It faces Centralia on Tuesday in the first of two Swamp Cup meetings.
“The focus is to take care of business on our end,” Bearcats head coach Kyle Karnofski said. “I was happy we were able to come out and have a good start.”
It was a 21-point first quarter followed by 17 in the second that put the Bearcats in front by 23 at the half. They won each frame and had Kaitlyn Chloupek, Dilyn Boeck and Joy Cushman each contribute in various ways. That trio all were in double figures, paced by Chloupek’s 14.
Madi McManus had a personal 6-0 run while Karnofski credited Izzy Teeter and Hadley Hoffman for being the top defenders on Shelton’s Janelle Krise.
“Our motto the last couple weeks (is) to take one step forward everyday," Karnofski said. “Get better and peak at the right time.”
