Weekend Track Roundup: Loggers coast to boys team title in Kalama

Ignited by a pair of 1-2 finishes in the throwing events by Justice Werner and Ethan Thayer plus three other victories, the Onalaska High School boys track and field team piled up 116 points to win the team title at Friday’s Kalama Twilight Invitational.

Werner unleashed the shot put over 51 feet and eclipsed 173 feet in the discus to claim both events and Thayer was the runner-up in both. Those two plus Brodey Triana and Case McGraw ran 44.16 seconds to triumph in the 400 relay. Triana won the open 400 while Justin Jacoby (javelin) and Luke Barrick (pole vault) also won. Jacoby’s toss of 169-11 was a new lifetime best.

Toledo edged Tenino 68-65 for third while Rochester (43) and Adna (41) recorded top-10 finishes. Treyton Marty ran 4:28.70 to set a new PR and triumph in the 1,600-meter run for the Riverhawks. The senior also won the 3,200 and junior Adam Kruger leaped 41-03 to stand atop the podium in the triple jump.

Carson Schall ran 15-flat to triumph in the 110 hurdles and Ashton Moore claimed the long jump for the Beavers. Rochester’s Le’Shawn Hines (high jump), Gunnar Morgan (800) and Dominic Delgado (100) placed second, as did Adna’s Gavan Muller (110 hurdles). Mossyrock’s Briar Baldwin placed top-five in both the 100 and 200.

On the girls side, Adna finished second with 77.5 points and Rochester (52), Onalaska (38.5) plus Toledo (36) placed in the top-11. The Pirates saw Lydia Tobin unleash a throw of 114-06, a new PR, to win the javelin. Karsyn Freeman (discus) and Sorena Neilson (100 hurdles) also picked up wins.

Merecedies Dupont ended the night with three wins, claiming the 200-meter dash in a lifetime best of 25.87 seconds and teamed with Jordyn Johnson, Kenna Pratt and Kailyn Black to secure the 400 and 800 relays. Black also won the 300 hurdles in a PR of 50.16 seconds.



Onalaska’s Kiley Talley won the shot put while Toledo’s 1,600-meter relay took first. Tenino’s Brynn Wiliams nabbed two fifth place finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200 while Mossyrock’s 400 relay also crossed the finish line in fifth.

Both Tumwater teams place top-three in loaded field

Behind three relay wins between the T-Birds boys and girls teams, they finished top-three in both team races at Saturday’s 35th gearUP Eason Invite in Snohomish.

Cassidy Hedin, Ava Jones and Reese Heryford were a part of both Tumwater’s victorious 400 and 1,600-meter relays. Ashlyn Hufana was on the 400 relay and Alexandra Broome anchored the 1,600 relay. McKayla Clary was the lone other winner on the girls side, claiming the javelin.

Hufana took third in the long jump and Paige Henderson was the runner-up in the discus, both setting new lifetime bests in the process.

On the boys side, the 1,600-meter relay quartet of Josh Schlecht, David Malroy, Cash Short and Blake Kirkpatrick crossed the finish line in 3:22.33. Malijah Tucker (shot put) and Aaron Paul (high jump) secured runner-up finishes while Short claimed third place in the 400.
