TUMWATER — W.F. West scored 48 points in the second half to earn a 69-51 win over Black Hills in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls basketball game here on Wednesday.
Madi Haakenson had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Annika Waring led all scorers with 23 points and Drea Brumfield also recorded 10 points to go with six assists. Courtney Bennett had five steals for the Bearcats.
Jordyn Bender led the Wolves with 11 points and Alexa Bovenkamp added 10 points.
W.F. West shot 37 percent from the field and held the Wolves to 31 percent shooting. The Bearcats had 13 steals and won the rebounding battle 48-35.
Black Hills jumped ahead 12-8 after one quarter. The Bearcats battled back but still trailed 24-21 at halftime. It was all W.F. West in the second half, outscoring Black Hills 48-27 to earn the win.
W.F. West (8-5, 3-1) travels to the Hub City on Friday for round one of Swamp Cup basketball.
Winter Leads Warriors Past Tigers
ROCHESTER — Paige Winter wasn’t 100 percent but that didn’t stop her from putting up a double-double to help Rochester earn a 46-37 win over Centralia in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls basketball game here on Wednesday.
Winter scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Sofie Sand added nine rebounds and eight points for the Warriors.
Carissa Kaut led the Tigers with 12 points and Hannah Porter and Makayla Erickson each added six points.
The Warriors held a slim 6-5 lead after one quarter but was able to expand the lead in the second quarter for a 21-16 lead at halftime.
Rochester maintained their lead throughout the second half and outscored the Tigers 25-21, with some Warriors coming off the bench and hitting some big threes to maintain the victory.
The Warriors had 42 rebounds against the Tigers.
“Defense definitely won that game for us tonight. We didn’t have Lexi (Jones-Sederberg) tonight so we were bringing the ball up by committee,” Rochester coach Davina Serdahl said. “Centralia did a nice job of pressing us. Defense and rebounding was the difference maker to make up for our not taking care of the basketball.”
Rochester (8-6, 1-3) travels to Aberdeen on Friday while Centralia (3-11, 1-3) hosts W.F. West on Friday in a hardwood Swamp Cup game.
