‘We are super excited’: New Timberland Regional Library opens doors in Randle

Dozens attend opening of Mountain View Library in East Lewis County

Dozens of people gathered at the new Timberland Regional Library (TRL) in Randle for the grand opening on Saturday, Jan. 11, to celebrate the opening of the new space.

The Mountain View Library facility broke ground on April 4 after an approved contract last February with Schwiesow Construction, of Centralia, to construct the facility, which was designed by Aetta Architects.

“The people of Randle rose up in support of their library when they worried about its future, driving hours to speak up in defense of it in 2018. TRL heard you, and I urge you to continue to show the love and make use of this valuable source,” said Brian Mittge, a TRL trustee representing Lewis County.

With its open-concept and big windows, the library is filled with natural light for avid readers, even on a cloudy day. A giant two-story mushroom playhouse, designed by Skyler Voie, towers over the inside of the library from the kids play area.

Voie designed and constructed the mushroom at TRL headquarters to be transported in pieces to the new Randle location.

His work is featured in different TRL libraries, including a sunken pirate ship called “The Jolly Reader” at the Shelton TRL location.

TRL Executive Director Cheryl Heywood thanked Voie and Judi Brummett, the Mountain View Library manager, for their continued dedication to opening the Mountain View Library for the community.

“We are super excited to open up this new library in East Lewis County. It’s the first new library in more than two decades. We’re just so pleased with the turnout today and the way the community is really supporting this library,” Heywood said.

The building includes a drive-thru window, expanded access hours and a space for large programs or events.

The Timberland Regional Library covers an area of 7,000 miles in five counties. This includes libraries in Centralia, Chehalis, Oakville, Packwood, Tenino, Salkum, Tumwater, Winlock and Yelm, among other cities.

Mountain View library is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It's located at 10111 U.S. Highway 12.
