Washington State Patrol detectives arrested a man suspected in a homicide Thursday, more than nine years after he allegedly crashed his car while under the influence of alcohol, leading to the death of one of his passengers.

Jerry Denson, 36, was arrested in West Seattle and booked into King County Jail, according to a statement from State Patrol. Denson was placed on the agency’s Most Wanted list in 2017, after he failed to appear in court on a vehicular homicide charge, the statement read.

According to State Patrol, Denson is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol on Interstate 5 in Kent on March 17, 2017. He allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which flipped over and ejected Joy Marie Brannon, one of the passengers. Brannon, 28, died as a result of her injuries.

Over the past several months, State Patrol detectives and the organized crime intelligence unit learned “credible information” about where Denson was and worked with the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force to take him into custody, the statement said.

“No matter how much time passes, we will continue to pursue those who evade accountability for serious crimes,” Trisena Sharff, captain of the Washington State Patrol’s Criminal Investigative Division, said in the statement.

Sharff continued, “Today’s arrest is the result of relentless investigative work and strong partnerships, and we hope it brings some measure of justice to the Brannon family.”
