Warriors lose opener at Hoquiam

The Rochester volleyball team lost its season opener at Hoquiam on Wednesday, 25-16, 25-6, 25-15.

For coach Bridget Morris, the final scores — with the possible exception of the second set — don’t tell the whole story for her Warriors, who only had four returning varsity players on the court.

“It’s hard when you’re all brand new,” she said. “We did some good stuff, but we just couldn’t put it all together at the same time.”

Those returners led the way, in the form of Delaney Winter at the net and Cheyenne Justice at the back, while freshman Alexis DuPont made a strong debut at the service line.

“There are areas of improve for sure, but I see potential, so that’s good,” Morris said.

Rochester will come to Centralia for the annual Centerville Tournament on Saturday, then go to Montesano for its final non-league tune-up Monday.
