Warriors get going to beat Bruins

The Rochester girls basketball team got back into the win column to wrap up its two-day stint at Montesano on Friday, finding its groove as the game went on in a 57-19 win over White Salon.

“It was a much better outing for us, both offensively and defensively,” first-year Rochester coach Keeli Rivas said. “Everyone did their jobs and contributed one way or another. The girls did the little things today, and it showed.”

The Warriors (6-3, 2-2 2A EvCo) trailed 9-7 after a quarter, but held the Bruins to just 10 points in the rest of the game, ending on a 36-7 run in the second half.

A good chunk of that second-half offense came from Delany Winter and Grace Hoover, who finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively, after combining for just one in the first two quarters.

Mandy Andree-Cordell led the Warriors with 14 points, and Sara Haury made it four Rochester players in double figures with 11.

Rochester will bid farewell to 2023 with a non-league home game against Winlock next Friday.
