The Rochester girls basketball team took a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter on Thursday, but couldn’t hold on in a 52-49 loss to Montesano.

The two teams went back-and-forth throughout the first half, but the Warriors pulled away in the third by allowing just four points in the quarter.

Rochester coach Keeli Rivas said that the key in the third was staying disciplined on defense and avoiding unnecessary fouls, which they did well in that frame.

The Montesano offense found its rhythm in a big way in the fourth, scoring 23 to erase the deficit and complete the comeback.

“We made the adjustments and had a solid third quarter,” Rivas said. “But we allowed them to gain some momentum.”

Grace Hoover led the way offensively for the Warriors (5-3, 2-2 2A EvCo) with 19 points, and Delany Winter added 12.

The Warriors are back in action at Montesano on Friday, but they’ll take on Columbia (White Salmon).
