Voters choose new Morton City Council as unopposed Mossyrock City Council incumbent secures seat again

Residents in East Lewis County communities cast their ballots alongside tens of millions of other voters nationwide today, with councilor races in Morton and Mossyrock. 

What follows are preliminary results released on the Lewis County Auditor’s Office Elections Department website at 8:02 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4 — with 14,979 ballots counted so far and an estimated 1,204 ballots left to count. 

The next ballot count is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m., with results due to be certified by Nov. 25. 

Out of a total of 58,927 registered voters in the county, voter turnout was estimated at 25.42%

Morton

In Morton, four different positions on the Morton City Council were on the ballot, with none of the incumbent councilors choosing to run for re-election. 

In the race for Morton City Council Position 4, candidate Kristen Lilley trailed candidate Jeff Johnson, with 66 votes to Johnson’s 131 votes — or 32.51% to 64.53% — with six votes for write-in candidates. 



For the race for Morton City Council Position 5, candidate Jason Knuston led candidate John VanBlaricom, with 100 votes to VanBlaricom’s 69 votes — or 54.35% to 37.5% — with 15 votes for write-in candidates. 

Candidate Maria Gonzalez was running unopposed for Morton City Council Position 2, as was Peter Michael Hansen for Morton City Council Position 3. 

Gonzalez received a total of 155 votes to six votes for write-in candidates, while Michael Hansen garnered 149 votes to seven votes for write-in candidates. 

Mossyrock

In Mossyrock, incumbent Councilor Juliana Simon ran unopposed to retain her Mossyrock City Council Position 4 seat, getting a total of 70 votes to six votes for write-in candidates.
