Volunteers Sought for Lewis County Lodging Tax Advisory Board

Posted

A news release from the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) this week announced the county is seeking applications for a vacancy on the county’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee.

The committee is volunteer-run. Applicants must represent a business that is required to collect lodging taxes in unincorporated Lewis County.

The lodging tax, also referred to as the hotel-motel tax, is a consumer tax on lodging for hotels, motels, rooming houses, private campgrounds, RV parks and similar facilities, stated the release.

Lewis County receives lodging taxes collected in unincorporated parts of the county and then distributes the money among Lewis County entities that support tourism. Committee volunteers advise the BOCC on how to best allocate those funds.

The term for this seat — which falls under a certain criteria in state law and must not be filled by a person representing a group that can be rewarded with the tax dollars — expires Dec. 31 not someone who represents an entity that qualifies to use the monies generated by the tax under RCW 67.28).

Application packets for the committee vacancy are available online at https://lewiscountywa.gov/offices/commissioners/bocc-news/.

To apply, submit an application and a letter of interest to Rieva Lester, clerk of the board, by mail at 351 NW North St., Chehalis, WA, 98532, or via email (attn.: LTAC) at committees@lewiscountywa.gov. Applications are due by 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9.

For questions about the position, contact Lester at 360-740-1419 or Tammy Martin at 360-740-1391.
