The Visiting Nurses Foundation has awarded Assured Hospice $130,000 as part of a continued partnership to provide therapies for end-of-life patients.

In a news release Wednesday, The Visiting Nurses Foundation, based out of Centralia, announced it would again support the program, which funds therapies around the state that are often not supported by insurance or covered by Medicare or Medicaid.

The Visiting Nurses Foundation has awarded grant dollars to Assured Hospice, which has locations in Washington including Centralia, each year since 2002, and the program has “grown exponentially” since an initial donation of $600. According to the release, the funds enforce “the foundation’s mission to create funding for the education and assistance of Home Health and Hospice Patients and their families.”

The money supports comfort therapies, which include acupuncture and acupressure, animal-assisted therapy, guided imagery, healing touch, therapeutic touch, reiki, music and sound therapy and massages, which are integrated to enhance existing treatment plans.

“These therapies are proven effective in reducing pain, promoting relaxation and significantly improving the overall quality of life for both patients and their families,” the Visiting Nurses Foundation said in the release. “During a time when quality of life is so important, our partnership with Assured Hospice continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of hospice patients.”

According to the Visiting Nurses Foundation, the organization provided 942 site visits in eight counties.

“Visiting Nurses Foundation and Assured Hospice continue their shared mission to elevate end-of-life care, they express gratitude to the community for its ongoing Support,” the foundation said in the release. “Together, they are committed to ensuring that hospice patients receive the honor, dignity, and comfort they deserve in their final moments.”
