For the second time this postseason, the Mossyrock High School girls basketball team registered a masterpiece on the defensive side of the court in triumphing over Forks 28-26 in a Class 2B District 4 elimination game on Tuesday night in Castle Rock.

The 54 total points is the second-lowest combined total in district history, only surpassed by the 50 points Mossyrock and Onalaska set in the first round 10 days ago.

The Vikings (11-10) were up 9-1 after the opening frame, but Forks whittled the margin down to one entering the fourth quarter. Kendall Cournyer made the only field goal in the final frame in finishing with a team-best 11 points.

Adyson Barrows, who drilled the only trifecta for Mossyrock all game, added seven points.

It wasn’t our prettiest win but we will take it,” Vikings first-year head coach Nick Rashoff said. “It was a physical game and they were definitely bigger than us inside, but I was happy with our effort on defense and rebounding. I’m happy for the girls to get a chance to play to go to regionals.”

The Vikings will face Raymond-South Bend on Thursday night in Kelso in a winner-to-state contest.
