The Mossyrock softball team got off to a blazing fast start on Thursday in Toutle Lake, but the Ducks battled all the way back and eventually walked the Vikings off in extras to win 11-10.
Mossyrock scored seven runs in the first inning and added two more to take a 9-4 lead midway through the third.
That scoreline held until the fifth, when Toutle Lake began to claw back. The Ducks scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth to get within one, and they tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
The Vikings retook the lead on an Ashley Schwartz RBI single in the top of the eighth, but the Ducks tied it up again on an error in the bottom half. Three batters later, Toutle Lake’s Trayce Gump drew a bases-loaded walk-off walk.
Chesney Schultz went 3 for 5 at the plate, drove in two, and scored two more, and Calliope Schultz went 2 for 4. Schwartz finished 3 for 5, and Brooke Schwartz collected a pair of hits.
