Vikings stave off Kodiaks in four-set victory

The Mossyrock volleyball team won a back-and-forth league match in Battle Ground on Monday, topping Columbia Adventist in four sets, 25-16, 26-28, 25-23, 25-16.

The middle two sets were as close as they come, with both teams trading momentum throughout.

Despite dropping the second set, the Vikings rebounded in the third set before sealing the game in the fourth.

Erin Cournyer led the way, filling up the box score with 20 kills, 14 digs and six digs. Abbie Lovan had 10 digs and had five aces serving. Arieth Villalba also had five aces on a perfect 16-for-16 from the service line.

Taylor Schwartz added seven digs, and Chesney Schultz totalled 10 kills.

Both teams were 2-0 in league play coming into the game, but now the Vikings leap above the Kodiaks in the 1B Columbia Valley league standings, trailing only Willapa Valley (which is 4-0 in league play.

Mossyrock will look to continue its strong play in league on Tuesday, when the Vikings head to Pe Ell.
