Two sets could have gone either way between Mossyrock and Toutle Lake on Wednesday, but the Vikings ended up on the wrong side of both in a 25-17, 24-26, 24-26, 19-25 loss.
“It was a great effort,” Mossyrock coach Alex Nelson said. “The team showed a lot of grit against a great defensive team losing two sets by the narrowest margin in volleyball. We’re looking forward to districts.”
Taylor Schwartz collected an eye-popping 65 digs, while Adyson Barrows added 34 to go with 12 kills and a pair of aces.
Kendall Cournyer logged 22 digs and 13 kills, and Brooke Schwartz finished with 18 digs and two aces. Calliope Schultz dished out 20 assists, and Leah Contreras tallied eight kills, three blocks, and two aces of her own.
Mossyrock finishes its regular season with an 8-8 overall record and a 4-4 mark in C2BL play. That leaves the Vikings as the No. 5 seed entering the district tournament on Saturday.
Mossyrock will face the No. 6 seed — either Napavine, Morton-White Pass, or Adna — which will be determined via a tiebreaker on Friday, in a loser-out first round matchup on Saturday afternoon in Onalaska.
