A 55-year-old Vader man was killed in a single-vehicle crash with a tree off of Jackson Highway near Toledo on Sunday, April 6, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office had not released information about the fatal crash until The Chronicle inquired on Tuesday.

Deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the crash near the intersection of Jackson Highway and Rakoz Road in the Toledo area at approximately 7:24 a.m. on April 6, Special Services Chief Gabe Frase said in response to a Chronicle inquiry on Tuesday.

The vehicle was likely traveling southbound on Jackson Highway when it crossed the northbound lane, left the roadway and crashed into a tree, according to Frase.

“It appeared it may have been there for quite some time before someone came across it,” Frase said Tuesday.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased when deputies and medical personnel arrived at the scene at approximately 7:39 a.m.

The man’s name has not yet been released by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.
