Use Caution With Fireworks, Lewis County Fire Marshal Says

Posted

The Office of the Lewis County Fire Marshal asked everyone in unincorporated parts of the county to exercise caution when discharging fireworks in a news release on Wednesday.

The following tips and guidance was offered in the release:

• Never light fireworks near fields, standing timber, slash or power lines.

• A charged garden hose or 5-gallon bucket of water should be on hand in case an emergency should arise.

• Pay close attention to the wind and where projectiles and sparks may land, be proactive and pre-sprinkler or hose areas of concern prior to lighting fireworks. Watering can also create a defensible space between you and your neighbors should sparks or debris land on your property.

County residents can also opt out of paying for and lighting off their own fireworks by attending the following displays:

• The Pe Ell School starting around 10 p.m. July 4.

• Centralia Summerfest at Fort Borst Park at 10:30 p.m. July 4.

• The Randle Firefighters Association at the White Pass High School July 3 starting around 10 p.m.

• The Mossyrock Freedom Festival, Klickitat Prairie Park, at 10 p.m. July 4.
