Chehalis School District Superintendent Rick Goble’s contract has been extended to three years, the Chehalis School District announced Wednesday.

At its Tuesday night meeting, the Chehalis School District Board of Directors announced completion of the board’s performance review of Goble, who was given an initial one-year contract when he was named superintendent in June 2024.

At the time, all parties agreed that the Chehalis School Board would review Goble's performance as superintendent after six months and decide whether or not to extend his contract.

On Tuesday, the board unanimously voted to grant Goble a three-year contract.

“Superintendent Goble is doing an outstanding job," Chehalis School Board President J. Vander Stoep said. "We see it directly and we hear it continually from teachers, staff, parents and the community. He has continued and grown the focus here on student achievement. It is a sign of Rick’s integrity and commitment to our students and staff that he offered a compensation package almost $30,000 lower than that of the previous superintendent because he recognizes the tight financial times facing Chehalis and all other public school districts.”

The Chehalis School Board unanimously voted to name Goble as acting superintendent in June 2024 when former Superintendent Dr. Christine Moloney announced her resignation after four years with the district. According to a state salary database, Moloney was paid $241,169 in the 2022-2023 school year but, according to the school district, her base salary was actually $225,000.

However, according to the state database, Moloney collected $545,618 in the 2023-2024 academic year, the highest amount of any K-12 school employee in the state. The Chronicle asked a school district official to provide clarity and context for the state’s report, but the official said they could not provide that information in time for The Chronicle’s Friday afternoon deadline.  Look for an update in The Chronicle and at chronline.com when the information becomes available.

Goble was paid $196,235 in the 2023-2024 school year, according to the database. His base annual salary under the new contact is $212,000.

"I am honored by the continued trust and support from our school board and community," Goble said. "This board decision reflects our shared commitment to taking the necessary steps to meeting our 75 by 35 student achievement goal of 75% of our graduates going on to earn a credential past high school by the class of 2035 and 100% of our grads being prepared for the journey ahead."

Prior to joining the Chehalis School District about 10 years ago, Goble taught for 10 years in the Morton School District, served as the high school principal in Winlock and held an administrative position in Tumwater. He worked as the assistant principal and career and technical education program director at W.F. West High School before he was promoted to executive director of student achievement in July 2022.
