Two people died Monday night after a semi-truck lost control and collided with an oncoming car on U.S. Route 26 near milepost 74 in Wasco County, Oregon State Police said.
Dagoberto Moreno-Prada, 31, of Eugene, was driving a semi-truck hauling a 53-foot intermodal container on U.S. Route 26 when he lost control while navigating a corner at about 9:16 p.m., according to the Oregon State Police’s preliminary investigation. The semi-truck and trailer rolled and slid into the opposite, westbound, lane.
A Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by J. Natividad Martinez-Colin, 35, of Vancouver, struck the semi-truck head-on in the westbound lane. The intermodal container dislodged from the trailer, and both the container and the Jeep went through the guardrail and came to rest off the roadway. The semi-truck rolled several more times before stopping on the roadway.
Both Moreno-Prada and Martinez-Colin were pronounced dead at the scene, Oregon State Police said.
Warm Springs Fire & Safety and the Warm Springs Police Department assisted Oregon State Police at the scene.
