Two early goals lift Ospreys over Trailblazers

The Centralia men’s soccer team’s four-game unbeaten streak was snapped on Wednesday when the Trailblazers fell to the Rough College Ospreys 2-0.

The Traiblazers (2-2-2) quickly fell behind, as Rouge’s Dan Martinez found the back of the net in the fourth minute and Cody Brinkerhoff doubled the lead 13 minutes later.

Centralia was able to generate a few chances before the break, but they weren’t able to cut into the deficit.

In the second half, both defenses stood strong. The Ospreys controlled the pace of play, outshooting Centralia 7-0 in the second half, but the Trailblazers held them scoreless in the final 45.

“I think that’s one of the toughest teams we’ve played,” Centralia coach Noel Vazquez said. “We put up a hell of a fight, and we are getting better for when the (conference) season starts.”

The Trailblazers have two games down south before conference play kicks off, as they’ll head to Portland to face PCC next Wednesday before a matchup with Southwestern Oregon next Saturday, Sept. 23.

Conference play begins on Wednesday, Sept. 27, when the Trailblazers host South Puget Sound at Bob Peters Field.
