Two suspects made their first court appearances Thursday on charges related to a November burglary in Randle in which jewelry and other items were stolen.

Jennifer A. Rasmussen, 18, and Jacob A. Rowland, 27, both of Randle, were charged with one count each of residential burglary in Lewis County Superior Court.

Rasmussen, who has no criminal history, was granted $10,000 unsecured bail.

According to Lewis County Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor Brad Meagher, Rowland has “extensive criminal history,” including a pending charge for trafficking in stolen property and convictions for possession of a stolen vehicle, theft, burglary and robbery. He asked $25,000 bail for Rowland, which was granted by Superior Court Judge Joely O’Rourke.

According to court documents, a victim in the 100 block of Beryl Road in Randle reported that on Nov. 15, she came home to find a person in her home. She and a neighbor reportedly found Rasmussen hiding under a bush in the backyard.

On that date, the victim declined to pursue charges, believing that Rasmussen was “cold, hungry and pregnant and was just looking for something to eat,” according to court documents.

However, since then, the victim reported finding that six knives, five of which were collectible, had been moved from one location in the house and found in a bag in the craft room, where a person was hiding when the victim first discovered the break-in on Nov. 15.

Two portable hard drives and a thumb drive were also taken.

Later, the victim also discovered a jewelry case with jewelry items was also stolen. Both suspects were arrested Wednesday.
