Twin Cities Lacrosse wraps up successful season

Posted

This past weekend marked the end-of-season tournament for all Twin Cities Lacrosse teams, wrapping up another exciting year for the Lumberjacks.

The kindergarten through second grade team had a strong showing during pool play in the Silver Division, earning impressive wins over White River/Enumclaw (7-3) and Sumner Bonney Lake (7-3). Unfortunately, the team suffered a heartbreaking loss to begin Sunday’s single-elimination bracket play. With many of this year’s players being second graders, much of the roster will move up to compete in the third/fourth grade division next season, while the younger players will continue building on the momentum of Twin Cities’ first-ever K-2 team.

“Even though the season ended on a tough note, all of the players showed tremendous growth throughout the year,” said K-2 Coach Matt Elsner. “The effort and progress from the beginning of the season to the end was amazing to see. Several coaches from other teams even commented on how much our team had improved during the tournament.”

The fifth and sixth grade team entered the tournament short-handed due to a few missing players but opened strong with a 6-1 victory over North Tapps. The team then battled hard in losses to Sumner Bonney Lake (5-8) and Puyallup (5-6). Earning the No. 5 seed in Sunday’s single-elimination bracket, Twin Cities faced familiar rival Vashon Island, a team they have matched up against many times over the years. In another tightly contested game, the Lumberjacks came up just short, falling 6-5.

Competing in the highly competitive Gold Division, the seventh and eighth grade team faced an especially difficult challenge. The Lumberjacks finished pool play with an 0-2-1 record, securing the No. 7 seed for Sunday’s bracket play. At this level, every Gold Division team is a perennial powerhouse. Twin Cities was ultimately overmatched by Graham Kapowsin, but the tournament provided valuable high-level experience for every player on the roster. With the core of this team set to transition into high school lacrosse in 2027, the competition served as excellent preparation for the future.

It was another great season for the Lumberjacks and their players representing communities across western Lewis County.
