Tumwater’s Thompson earns EvCo MVP honors

The postseason heroics ended up being a glimpse of what the Evergreen Conference coaches saw from Tumwater High School’s Derek Thompson this spring.

Thompson, bound for Lower Columbia College, garnered his first career league MVP award on Monday behind five home runs and an OPS over 1.000 at the plate. On the mound entering the Class 2A state tournament, he’s 4-1 with an ERA of 1.65 and 43 strikeouts.

League champion W.F. West finished with seven first team recipients, tops among the six-team league. Here’s the complete list of first, second and honorable mention honorees.
